No, this is not your junior highschool-type food fight I'm talkin about, ehehe. CPRRL is coming along rather speedily, despite the madness that was the puffy hearts. I've already finished the front part(you do this sweater in the round, until the armholes, where from there you do the front and back seperately, in a back-and-forth manner), and am working on the back portion.. After I join those two together, then it's on to the sleeves.
Christmas here was rather uneventful. All plans to visit family were shot through due to sick kids(who are now, of course, healthy again). So home we stayed enjoying them and their gifts(gee, don't adults get anything anymore?), I got some knitting done, and got to think about what I'm going to knit NEXT year!!
I've got that cute little 'Knitting Pattern-a-Day' Calendar for 2005. So far I've read January and October(my birthday month), and I like what I see. Too bad I can't possibly knit EVERYTHING in there in ONE day. But it's a start. I'm excused from a few things as they wouldn't fit me(hell, with CPRRL I've had enough of altering patterns for the next 10 years!), so that leaves the scarves, hats, mittens and kid stuff. :D

Here's MY sign...
12.24.04 (5:22 pm) [edit]
Omg I don't believe this. What was I THINKING. I just saw a picture of someone's Cheesylove sweater and get this.. They didn't do ribbing at all!! And it looks really nice that way too!! Why didn't I think of that. Here I am worried about decreasing with the 2x2 ribbing instead of using the original 2x1, and I didn't have to use ANY ribbing.. Here's my sign!

This is where I'm at now. Just two more rows of the pattern and then it's back the purple part. I've really learned to just go with my instincts when it comes to following patterns. After careful thought I realized I could have used Lamb's Pride worsted for the pink hearts. This yarn is wool/alpaca and just fuzzy enough to give a mohair-like appearance to them.

Mohair is NOT what I thought it was...
12.23.04 (10:56 am) [edit]
Ok it is MADE of what I thought it was.. rabbit hair. BUT. Ugh. So I've reached the part where you do the fair isle hearts on CPRRL. Now when I first bought the yarns for it, I didn't really read through the pattern, and as a result I didn't know I'd need to double the yarn.
The Patons Divine is a pretty big ball, so I wasn't worried about not having enough, and I just went ahead with it. But the yarn is too thick when it's doubled. Yuck. So I had to frog back a few rows so I could undo the mohair and start over with a single strand. Well, that sucks too! It's not such much as thick anymore, but it's WAY too fuzzy.
Now, to be fair, I checked out the makeup of the original yarn and decided that Divine would be a good substitute. But seeing as I didn't realize the yarn would be doubled I'm guessing that original yarn was actually NOT a worsted/chunky weight yarn but more like fingering or sport weight. Adding in the fuzziness of the yarn I could see doubling a fingering weight yarn for this. I originally planned on just using pink Patons classic wool for the hearts.. But I wanted to use the fibers called for so it would at least look more like the original. Bad idea.
There is a positive in all this. I've picked up the habit of 'throwing' the yarn again. I had to in order to make using two colors easier to work with. I was getting tired of dropping one yarn to pick up the other and then getting them tangled again. I just wish this was working out the way I wanted. I'm knot going to frog it again. I'll keep on and just think of it as my 'Re-intro to fair isle and throwing' sweater.
This $hit ain't funny!

Progress...
12.19.04 (6:55 am) [edit]
I've got about 4 inches left of CPRRL before I get to do the fair isle hearts. I've got some finagling to do first: the stitch count is at 252 originally but I upped it to 264 for sizing and to make the numbers even for the 2x2 ribbing I chose to do instead of the 2x1. So I've got to reduce down 12 stitches so I don't get caught ass-out with the hearts. Then I guess I could leave it that way cause that would also do a little empire waist-like shaping. I like that instead of the lower waist shaping there was. I've got more rolls than a bakery.

Nothing else on the needles right now. I'm still trying to decide if I want to dye yarn for another London Beanie or use something already made. I've been up to my eyeballs in laundry, trying to clear out stuff nobody wears mixed in with stuff we DO wear.. so I haven't gotten around to felting my other potholder.. It's ok. The one I already made is working nicely. Brightens up the kitchen a bit too!

Beanie Beanie Beanie!!
12.15.04 (4:09 pm) [edit]

There she is!! She's not done yet. Still a few more rows before I close it up.
This is me wearing my beanie. Don't mind the expression on my face. Just as I snapped the pic, a dwarf came in and wrapped herself around my legs. Took me by surprise.
I'll try and get a better picture later. I had to roll the ribbing up because when I made the hat I had hair.. Now, I don't!

Mystery Beanie...
12.14.04 (4:19 am) [edit]
I've cast on for the London Beanie again, this time for myself. I would like to point out for anyone who might be interested in making one:
I didn't really check guage on the original project. I just took the needles called for and followed the pattern. Based on the info surrounding the pattern one would believe the hat originally made would fit a teenage boy. Someone whose head is probably NOT much smaller than an adult head.
The hats *I* made fit 4 and 7 year old children. So. Please!! check guage. I know, I should have known better but I just wanted to jump into this pattern. So for ME, 72 stitches cast-on is a bit too small for my head. (the hat I first gave to hubby wasn't too narrow, just too short!). I therefore added 8 stitches to the cast on, making it 80, and that would change the ribbing to 2x2 instead of 2x1.
So, if you make London Beanie after checking for guage and it does fit an adult, ok. If you decide you want to make it for someone smaller like my kids, then perhaps taking away 8 or 16 stitches will work. The ribbing would be determined by whether the resulting number is divisible by 2 or 3.
Pics later!! :D

12.13.04 (12:23 pm) [edit]

Not much to say.. This one is going to DD. She loves it! DS is getting the one for hubby, as it fits him better. Hubby went and bought a Miami Dolphins beanie anyway(I love you anyway, Frank).
Next up. Me! Hmm What colors...?
Don't tell me, I already know!

Humble beginnings
12.12.04 (5:23 am) [edit]
This is the start of yet another London Beanie:

Not sure what color the stripes will be but I'm thinkin PINK!
Gosh this pattern is so simple I can't believe I've been without it this long! ThangQ Mark? for simplifying this for all of us knitters!
I think I've gone mad. I fully intend to knit an array of these puppies in various colors. It'd be a great way to use my vast acrylic stash. I might be nutty enough to go round the city doling them out to the homeless. I'm sure they'd like something to help keep their heads warm.

12.11.04 (3:21 pm) [edit]
Or whatever Brits say when they're happy! I've just finished London Beanie

for hubby. I like the way it looks on him, but he doesn't, so he didn't wanna have his picture taken in it. Gee you'd think I'd have more FO's with people IN them huh? He's gonna wear it anyway, or wear my foot in his *whistle*.
I like this pattern so much, and it's so fast and easy, I'll make them for some other man in my life!(don't tell hubby I said that--it's my brother anyhow).
Still going with CPRRL, nothing much to say about it. I've done another potholder; just waiting for the washer to be free again(ahhh laundry, how I hate thee). And then it's on to some Xmas Socks!! Or something like that. Hell, they'll be green and red, ain't that enough?

Got Damn knitting! Q#W$#@%#$ Big Sack you @#Q$$@%^()*#....
No wonder I'm having trouble sewing the left sleeve on. For some ungodly reason there's no partial bindoff to delineate the raglan from the rest of the sleeve. And this sleeve is shorter than the other. Or maybe that sleeve is longer than this one. I don't $^#$% know. All I know is, I'm gonna have to reknit this #%##@$$% sleeve.
So far, Farrow Rib scarf is turning out to be a disaster too. It's killing my hands doubling it on 11s. Either that or it's the needle I'm using. Denise. I know if I don't double the yarn it'll take me a month to finish and well.. It's for Xmas so... Fark it. I'll have to come up with something else for hubby... Who by the way, came home yesterday with THESE:

Ugh, just what I need. 4 more mouths to feed and listen to all day. Granted, they haven't said much since they got here, but give them time and I'll be wanting to let them fly away home!! So now, not only do I have a big-ass bag of hamster kibble in my freezer, I also have a big-ass bag of Bird seed in there too!!! At least he didn't come home with a dog...

Well, sort of. I did get to hit the Smiley's Hotel Sale. But I was on limited funds and could only dream of splurging. They had all sorts of chintzy designer wools and alpaca and mohair... And the standard acrylic fare as well. I got to pick up and fondle some nice stuff, but in the end I walked out with a single bag(5 balls) of black Patons Classic wool.
I will use it doubled to make hubby's Farrow Rib scarf(gee I hope he doesn't read this.. it's supposed to be a surprise )and if I can squeeze any extra out of what's left( I think I have some left over from the Striped Raglan!) I can make a matching beanie cap!! I know he'd love that..
ETA:
I found this site and have decided to participate. It's a Green-along where we knit something green. I've just finished up the pop top mittens(see previous post) and I used the rest of the yarn to make a felted potholder(I'm beginning to think, one of MANY to come!!) which is here, in its pre-felted state:

And this is the potholder AFTER the wash:

If you look carefully at the before pic you can see I tested the Farrow Rib pattern on it. Of course, felting basically demolishes any stitch patterns you use, but in the FO I can still detect a hint of the fabric.
Cool, huh?
So you know, now I've found someone with a fascination for orange and green. My favorite color is red. Hmm... maybe I should start a Red-along!!

I just want to thank everyone who's been visiting and commenting on my blog.. I really appreciate it. It feels good to know people are interested in what I write. I haven't been working on any new projects since I finished the mittens. Wanna get more of CPRRL done before I decide what I want to do next. I've been claying alot lately and have more pens waiting in the wings..
I got a bit of CPPRL done because I had to sit in the ER with JV this morning. Luckily he's ok and we're back home. I even got compliments about my 'pretty sweater' :D
I've learned of a ribbing technique called 'Farrow Rib'. You K2,p1 across a cast-on of a multiple of 3. It creates a " column of Knit sts, a column of purls, and a column of moss st." See here for a pattern.
ETA:
Michelle of The Orange Yarn, Please(see link at right) asks: "oooh, I like the farrow rib look. I'd never heard of it before. are you going to make a scarf using it for your next project? that'd be pretty with some of your hand-dyed stuff!"
Oops, I could have sworn I posted about that. I guess I wind up thinking one thing and then typing another! So, Yes, I was planning on knitting hubby a scarf in that ribbing. I've got some of the Big Sack yarn left over. I absolutely MUST sew it all together and add the turtleneck(gasp) so I can see how much I'll actually have left. Then I can dye it a nice deep purple/gray color(ahh, grape KoolAid, you DO serve a purpose) which should be 'manly' enough to suit him, and he'll actually USE it. teehee
