BANG ZOOM!
03.31.05 (10:10 pm)   [edit]
Hubby and I were on our way out the door to do some spring shopping for the kids(and us, too ) when the mailman almost knocked on hubby's head: He had a package for me!! And guess what is was? :D

BAM! I don't know which way to run first? Janet Evanovich or Julia Alvarez?

Check out the little cotton notion bag: Hand-made by my Secret Pal herself! And look inside:

she wrote out "March 2005 S.P." :D Also inside were some iron-on labels I can put inside my handmade creations!; and something I didn't realize existed: a row counter designed to hang on the needles! I've seen those red and blue little spool-shaped jobs that you stick on straights but this one had a little rod in the middle and on one end is a hole you can put on the needle like you would a stitch marker. I definitely can use this, and it will really help me keep track when doing decreases where it says ".. for so-and-so many rows...".

Do you know what Slack-Key guitar is? Me either  But my Secret Pal sent me a CD of some Hawaiian slack-key guitar music, and I intend to find out. I like listening to music from different culures and I've always wanted to see Hawaii so I guess this is the next best thing, huh?

ThangQ Secret Pal, you just keep outdoing yourself!
P.S. I like the little 'doll blanket'. If held up just the right way, it sorta looks like an outline of the 48 lower states! My girls don't really 'play' with dolls, I'll use it to decorate the top of my computer chair instead!

In other weird news: I don't know how I did it, but I've lost some sort of weight since I started working again. While shopping I stopped in the GAP(of ALL places), and spied a pretty lacy skirt. Now I KNOW I can't wear their womens clothing(I can barely fit into their biggest mens jeans and this was 8-10 years ago that I tried!), and yet, something told me to try on the skirt. It's a size 16, and last I knew I was wearing a 22. Well strangely enough, the skirt fits!!! that's three sizes down! For good measure I went into Old Navy(the GAP's womens jeans don't go nearly as high as that skirt did) and tried on an 18 and I could barely get them buttoned... hmmm.

There was a time I could wear Old Navy 20s--stretch jeans only!-- about 3 years ago. Weird... Was the skirt just a mis-sizing fluke?(These are new skirts, not on the clearance rack or anything). Or actually if I think it about it it's probably just the fact that the item is a skirt. I have this problem of having to wear jeans a size bigger for my waist than I really need them because of my thighs. I guess I'm so USED to wearing bigger stuff that just a few pounds off confuses me. I'd been wearing a size 26 jeans JUST for the thighs when I decided to shop for some new jeans and found myself buying size 19-20(and these stretch), just a few weeks ago. I don't know whether to rejoice or freak out!

Thanks and Appologies
03.28.05 (8:11 pm)   [edit]
First off, I'd like to thank those well-wishers concerned for my lost 'Kersti-London Beanie'. But as is the way of things in this world, I'll more than likely not see it ever again. That's ok. Gives me a reason to make another. If it's in the trash heap I hope it provides some warmth to some poor seagull's future nest. If some lucky bastige is wearing it, I hope they get as much pleasure from it as I have(P.S. I have cooties).

Second, I'd like to appologize to my readers. I lied to all of you. I said I wasn't going to buy any more yarn except for whatever I buy for my Secret Pal. But I couldn't resist the WEBS sale that I just got wind of via email and snatched up 2 bags of Cascade Lana D'Oro Tweed yarn in a nice natural color that I can farkle with and dye a bazzillion different ways. Shameless, I know. I hope I get it quick too. I'm about to clear out some stash(and lookit me filling it RIGHT back up again ).

I didn't get to work on Belle Epoque much today, on account it was raining and on days like that I just don't feel like hauling projects out on the bus. When I got home I got busy doing mom/wife things and didn't give my project sack a second glance.

HAPPY EASTER!
03.27.05 (11:18 am)   [edit]
I'm not one to actually celebrate Easter(at least not since I was a child), but I decided today the kids and I would color some eggs(yeah I'm late, so what?) and decorate some baskets. I think the overall theme of destruction and revival is in order, seeing as my 8-year-old lost a tooth the other day. Where does the time go! Which reminds me I have to keep track of which teeth are coming out before she looses a permanent one and I'm still thinking it's a baby tooth. I must get them in to the dentist. Bad Mommy.

Belle Epoque is coming along swimmingly, but I've still got a long way to go yet. And I've delved into another set of Janet Evanovich books, But this one, "Full Speed" while in its own way a good book, it doesn't carry the "balls" the Stephanie Plum series does. There aren't enough regular characters like in the latter books. I'll just have to wait until I get the rest.

ETA:

I'm sorry Altricial! I hit a wrong link and accidentally deleted this post and your comment with it.. Oopps..

Go Me! Go Me!
03.23.05 (3:03 am)   [edit]
Yes, here's a pic of where I am with Belle Epoque. I'm about 4 inches in.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I had a few issues with the Crocus Bud pattern but I finally got it down. I'm guessing blocking is in order for this sweater because the edge is curling up at me. Maybe there should have been a row of ribbing all around? Nah.

Let me tell you, mohair is HARD to ball up. I was just a-rollin away with my ball winder the other day and all of a sudden the ball of mohair just goes flying off the winder! Talk about 'WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE E' halfway across my bedroom. It did it again with the second ball, which was actually the rest of the one I was winding. That 4 inches you see is all of one ball! The Lane Cervinia Softer goes a long way!

In other knitting news I REALLY need to do something with that green sock. AND I have to block the sleeves of CPRRL. I know I've been neglecting her :(. And Big Sack. Gee, all these old projects as yet unfinished. Shame on me, but starting new projects is just so much FUN! :D

I found it!
03.19.05 (3:32 pm)   [edit]
:D Not too long after I went looking for my lost size 6 circ needle I found it. I'd been mistaking it for the size 7. duh. So I managed to(in the middle of the night, at that!) cast on for Belle Epoque and join in the round without TWISTING!! :) But for some reason the stitch pattern doesn't look as pretty as the pictures... :( I'll take pics when I've got more done and can lay it out better. Mohair flying everywhere

Bummed
03.18.05 (5:10 pm)   [edit]
Yeah I'm bummed. This second sock is taking longer than I thought. and I can't find the right needle for Belle Epoque. I just had the blasted thing, and now it's disappeared. Oh and I finished book number 5 in the Stephanie Plum series, by Janet Evanovich. So now I've got nothing good to read. Though I'm a tried and true Koontz and Grisham fan, lately I have been too deep in the bounty-hunter-mystery genre to even pick up those other books. For shame, I haven't even picked up a knitting book! I guess I'll get book number 1 tomorrow.

Off to sleep

No Title...
03.16.05 (2:06 pm)   [edit]

I read the comments to my last post and my Secret Pal was right: There's no indication of how many stitches to cast on. But, all I have to do is measure their calf/ankle and use that combined with the stitch gauge to come up with a cast-on figure. It's THAT simple. I've made up my mind and I'm going to start Belle Epoque first. The yarn colors I've chosen for Charlotte's Web Shawl are not exactly spring-like. So I can wait til late Spring to start it so it'll be ready for fall.

I know, bad Bean, no pics lately. My digicam is acting up something terrible. Someone must have knocked it on the floor or dropped it when I wasn't looking cause I can't get it to take a decent picture anymore, even put in new batteries and still blah. I could buy another but I don't want to hear hubby kvetching about it.

Try this: 2 big soupspoon dollops of plain yogurt, half a can of frozen OJ(or any variety thereof), 4 chopped up strawberries and 2 ice cubes. And you've got SMOOTHIE RAMA! I didn't follow a recipe this time. I just went with what felt good and what I had on hand(ok, so I went out and BOUGHT the OJ.. and the Yogurt ). If you've ever seen that bottled smoothie commercial where the blender is looking forlornly out the window, I'll say this: My blender is getting a workout! What a great way to get fruits!!

Ugh, Why is it so damn hard to get your hair done these days. I went to a few salons today to see about getting my hair cut and colored. NOBODY wanted to unless I was willing to relax it first. F%CK them! I don't HAVE to change my hair to get a color. They just don't want to put their hands in my nappy hair. F 'em! I'll take my business elsewhere. I don't have a thing against people who relax their hair, I just won't because it just makes my hair fall out.

I had my gallbladder u/s today. Basically no news til the doc has read the images. I guess that'll be another week of waiting, wondering why I hurt if there's 'nothing wrong with' me.

I know who my Secret Pal is!!!
03.13.05 (8:57 pm)   [edit]
It's the Energizer Bunny. 'Cause she just keeps going and going and going... Less than a week after I received two more books in the Stephanie Plum novel series by Janet Evanovich(I'm almost done with book 4, I had to stop reading it on the bus though; I keep busting out laughing and people look at me like 'WTF?'), I got in the mail, a Sock It To Me sock conversion guide!! I can't believe my luck! Now it'll be THAT much easier to figure out how big the kids' socks need to be when I make them. I'm not much for following sock patterns unless they have intricate designs(like lace and/or cables) so I don't really use one with plain sock yarns or self-striping ones. Which is why until now I only made socks for me. So this gadget comes in VERY handy. It has womens, mens and even infants/children sizes!! I'm nuts trying to figure out who's going to get a pair first (wringing hands, and smiling madly ).

ThangQ Secret Pal, You're outstanding!!! :D

YoYo the Circus Pretzel
03.11.05 (10:39 am)   [edit]
My 20 month-old has inspired me to give her a unique nickname. I'm sure NO ONE has a nickname like hers. Lately, although she doesn't really talk, her favorite phrase seems to be 'Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo!'. Besides that, you should see her when she's sleeping; she's a top-rate contortionist, a la Cirque du Soleil. Which is where the 'circus pretzel' part comes in. And there you have her, YoYo the Circus Pretzel! Now I see why my belly hurt so much when I was in my last two months of pregnancy with her.

YoYo has taken a liking to my Clapotis... and it has since disappeared. Don't ask... just..don't ask. My second green sock should be finished in time for St. Patty's Day, although it's more a forest green than a shamrock green(Is there such a thing?). You get the picture.

Secret Pal, if you're reading: I've received the two books you sent me. I tried holding off until I'd read book 1 before starting number 4 but I couldn't resist. So far, so good!

Mental Note to self: Next time, peel the bananas for smoothies BEFORE you freeze them. Picture me standing there trying to slice the frozen peels off while holding the thing with ONE finger  <-----------dumbass But they're oh so good! Is it possible to smoothie oneself to death? >
I've really been lagging in the claying department. I even got a new rolling storage bin for my claying supplies so they can stay in my bedroom until I need them(instead of under the kitchen table) and I haven't even moved them in. Tsk. I don't even spend that much time knitting like I used to. But, I like the money I earn cause then I can get more yarn and claying supplies(shame on me :D)

TAFN,
signing off!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yummy!!
03.06.05 (7:04 am)   [edit]
I just had the coolest smoothie.. It's the Pineapple Delight Smoothie from AllRecipes. I was cruising through Bed, Bath and Beyond when I spied this badboy Image hosted by Photobucket.com and I had to have it. I'd been wanting a food processor too so this combines both of the items in one product. And lucky me, I got a RED one :D

So I made the smoothie and the kids and I polished it off. Well, JV didn't really like it but that's ok. The thing I like about AllRecipes is that I can tailor the recipe to meet a certain number of servings instead of just following the recipe and having a ton of leftovers.

Speaking of cool links: Check out my links to the ---------------------- Yeah, those. I've added a few new ones, take a look-see!

Catch up!
03.06.05 (4:34 am)   [edit]
I know, I know. I've been slacking. I have no excuse for it. Just been ultra LAZY. Haven't been knitting much either except to work the heel on the second green sock. And I'm planning out adding the sleeves to CPRRL. Then before I can do anything else I MUST finish those Pop-Top mittens I promised my friend and then work up the courage to reknit the bad sleeve of Big Sack before I can sew it on.

After that... THEN I can mess with Belle Epoque and/or Charlotte. I supposed I should do Charlotte first, the Koigu's been sitting in the bin calling to me ever since I bought it. Then, once it's balled up and ready to knit, I can put the newer yarns(that are still in the bags I bought them with) into the stash bin. Talk about recycling yarn.

Guess what my Secret Pal sent us!!

It's a cute little game. I can't get my head around the instructions just yet, which probably means the 4 year old will be able to figure it out faster! Be on the lookout Secret Pal for a special Thank You!!

What the?
03.02.05 (2:08 am)   [edit]
Secret Pal, if you're out there I just want you to know that I'm ok. Been busy and working and going through some crap at home but I'm ok. I believe you said you were sending something to the kids and if it came from Hearthsong, please be advised that the local Pain(I mean Post) office is not responding to my requests to redeliver the package! The lazy-assed carrier didn't even bring it, just slipped the delivery notice in my box and went on about his business. I set redelivery for the 1st which was when I'd be home again and it didn't come. So now I have to haul asterisk tomorrow to get it from them myself before they send it back.

That's all for now, folks :)
